Enrollment for Swimming Lessons, Life Guard Classes, SCUBA Diving, and More Opens April 22

Whether you’re a tadpole or a seasoned swimmer, we’ve got group lessons for everyone. Plus, for those adventurous lovebirds out there, why not spice up your date night with our scuba programs? It’s sure to make a splash! Mark your calendars because registration for our awesome aquatic programs opens on Monday, April 22! Drumroll, please…Starting April 1, you can snag your very own membership online for an individual or the whole family. And get this – memberships start as low as $70 for the entire summer! That’s access to all six of our fabulous pools listed below. Check out our website for all the details.

SWIM LESSONS

Wichita Park & Recreation has partnered with the American Red Cross with a goal to reduce the number of drownings in communities by teaching children to be competent in the water. Therefore, the American Red Cross is offering scholarships to individuals to Learn To Swim. 

Starting April 22, apply for a scholarship to take a swim lesson for free at Wichita Public Swimming Pools. Apply For A Scholarship

Parent & Child Aquatics – $30

American Red Cross Parent and Child Aquatics is designed for children between the ages of 6 months to approximately 3 years, and their parents. The purpose of the course is to familiarize children with the water and teach swimming readiness skills. In addition, Red Cross Parent and Child Aquatics provides safety information for parents and teaches parents techniques they can use to help orient their children to the water. Level 1 will focus on basic swimming readiness skills and Level 2 will improve on the skills previously learned and teach more advanced skills. Parent must participate in the water, but does not enroll.  Register Online

Preschool Aquatics – $30

American Red Cross Preschool Aquatics is designed for children approximately 4 and 5 years of age. The purpose of the course is to facilitate developmentally appropriate learning of fundamental water safety and aquatic skills.  Level 1 will focus on basic aquatics skills, level 2 will improve on the skills previously learned to gain more independence and Level 3 will help children start to gain basic swimming propulsive skills. Learn To Swim – $40

The objectives of the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim courses are to teach children and young teens to be safe in, on and around the water and to swim well. Aquatic and personal water safety skills are taught in a logical progression through the different levels. View the American Red Cross Levels in the next section to find the appropriate fit for your child. Adult Aqua Aerobics – $40

Use the water’s natural resistance to increase cardiovascular endurance and muscle tone for a low impact workout. Movements are done vertically in waist deep or slightly deeper water. Submerging the face will not be required. Register Online

Junior Lifeguard Class – $55

Build a foundation of knowledge and skills to aid in becoming a future lifeguard. Get introduced to lifesaving skills, water rescues, use of the rescue tube, First Aid, CPR and AED. Also, shadow lifeguards on duty to get a real sense of being on the job. Register Online

SCUBA DIVING

These workshops are perfect or those who are curious about scuba diving, but not ready for a full-blown certification course. Under the direct supervision of a PADI scuba professional, students will learn how to use the scuba equipment, along with essential diving skills in the comfort of a swimming pool. Then, have fun swimming, exploring, or playing games!

Discover SCUBA

Explore the underwater world! This workshop is perfect for those who are curious about scuba diving, but not ready for a full-blown certification course. Learn how to use and move in the scuba equipment, plus other key diving skills. Then, use those skills during a dive in the confined waters of the swimming pool. Discover SCUBA Date Night

Make your date night one to remember! After an introduction to use of the scuba equipment, couples will be underwater and enjoying an evening swim in the pool! Then, dry off and finish the evening with a dinner under the stars! In partnership with Adventure Sports Kansas. Fee is per person and partner must also register. Bubble Makers

Ready to blow bubbles? Kids will learn about – and use – scuba gear that is just their size, while in the shallow end of a swimming pool. Practice includes playing cool games like underwater tag or with water torpedoes. In partnership with Adventure Sports Kansas. Register for Bubble Makers

Bubble Makers Family

Take the plunge! Kids will have the opportunity to learn about using scuba equipment and then enjoy using those skills as they swim around the pool. The best part is that you get to share the experience with your favorite adult for a fun family adventure!  In partnership with Adventure Sports Kansas. Fee is per person. SWIM TEAM

Join a swim team to learn a lifetime fitness skill, enhance your swimming abilities and grow your confidence. When you join one of our swim teams you build friendships and create lasting bonds. 

Swim team for ages 5 to 17 is offered at all city pools. The fee is $85 for the entire summer! The program is geared towards the beginner swimmer and is recreational in nature. Swimmers must be able to swim at least 25 meters unassisted. Register Now

CELEBRATE AT OUR POOLS

Enjoy a private pool rental, splash around and make a scene because all eyes are on you when you celebrate your birthday at one our swimming pools!

All pools are available to rent! The two-hour reservation admits both swimmers and non-swimmers up to the pool’s maximum capacity for $350.
