Now that the weather is warming up, the best way for families to beat the heat is with some delicious snow cones and shaved ice. Adults and kids cannot resist these satisfying treats that come in hundreds of yummy flavors. Luckily, the Wichita region offers so many different options that you would not have to search far to find one of these heat-breakers, and some will even come to you!
As I visited the locations “researching” for this article, I really enjoyed trying new flavors and engaging with the owners of these local businesses. A couple of things that they all had in common were
1) they know how to brighten the day of their customers with their tasty treats ,and
2) these business owners are active members of the community and support important causes such as education, youth sports, and others.
SNOW CONES IN EAST WICHITA
The ‘Berg
Located close to Andover, this food truck was the first snow cone I had ever tasted (I know, right?!). I loved the variety of options and the three flavors my family tried were delicious: Summer Breeze, Wedding Cake, and Rock and Roll. There are three different sizes and the portions are very generous with prices ranging between $3 and $5. The staff was very friendly and answered all our questions. They also offer a Birthday Party Package. You cannot go wrong at The ‘Berg!
The Slush Hut – Summer Snow
Andover Square @ Central and Andover, Andover, Kansas 67002
This very popular snow cone location has been open since 1999. On any given day, you will find people of all ages lined up for their favorite cool treat! They have an extensive list of flavors ranging from Blue Raspberry, to Cappuccino and Strawberry Daiquiri.
If you do not want to leave without a delicious snow cone – as we did the first time we went there – make sure you have cash on you, as they do not take other payments. They also offer gift cards, which would make a perfect summer gift!

The North Shore Shave Ice

Located near Bel Aire, this Hawaiian-themed truck offers some of the most popular shaved ice in town thanks to their delicious flavor combinations and the owner’s fun personality! His shaved ice is “the closest thing to real Hawaiian Shaved Ice” – the ice isn’t crushed/ground, but rather, shaved from a block of ice. You can also catch The North Shore Shave Ice truck at special events around the area and more recently at Chicken and Pickle.

Sweet Pops offers a variety of desserts from ice cream, boba teas, smoothies, specialty coffees and shaved ice. For $6.75, you can get shaved ice with a range of special toppings such as fresh fruit, special sauces, nuts and Oreos. The portions are huge! You do not want to miss out on the beautiful décor and peaceful atmosphere, so we recommend you enjoy your chilled treats onsite.

Mrs. Cole’s Tropical Sno

The owners of Mrs. Cole’s Tropical Sno started their business to fill children’s summer with sweet memories, and they are indeed accomplishing their mission. Their quaint storefront, which also offers seating, attracts a crowd every summer. You can also find their stand at many community events. They serve three sizes ranging from $3.50 to $4.50 and the portions are very generous. Try out one of their 40+ flavors or make your own combination. Don’t forget your punch card!
Mimi’s Eskimo Snow
2445 S. Seneca St in the Westway Marketplace parking lot
Known for their amazing flavors and great customer service, Mimi’s Eskimo Snow offers a large selection of flavors with prices ranging from $2 to $5 depending on sizes. Mimi’s Eskimo Snow’s specializes in offering all flavors as sugar free, even the popular Barbie and Spiderman.

La Morelense

If you are looking to try some shaved ice with a twist, check out La Morelense where you will be served a variety of delicious homemade desserts – ice cream, shaved ice, snacks etc – with unique Mexican flavors. Their raspados are very popular and they are usually made with blended ice and fresh fruit. The consistency is very similar to shaved ice. They also have a table with spices and sauces, if you like your desserts with a kick!
Flamingo Sno Shaved Ice

For the past 17 years, this family business has spread joy to their customers through their tasty chilled treats shaved directly from ice blocks. The friendly staff and the selection of over 60 flavors will keep customers coming back for more. Prices start at $2.50. Give Summer Breeze or The Spiderman a try!

Ice Caps Shave Ice prides itself on offering “the softest snow like ice” treat shaved right from a block. And, their reviews are filled with happy customers echoing the delightful experience of delicious flavors and enjoyable texture. One of their most popular combinations is to add ice cream at the bottom of the snow cone. Ice Caps also offers a wide range of add-ons such as nerds, gummy candies and marshmallows. They offer a variety of sizes ranging from $3 to $4.75.
Chilly Goat Shave Ice

I absolutely love the name of this family business and that alone would encourage me to drive to Newton and try their shave ice. This adorable and quirky little hut is run by siblings who clearly love to put a smile on their customers’ faces through delicious chilled treats and whimsical messages on their signs. They offer four sizes ranging from $2 to $5 and their list of flavors is extensive.
WICHITA SURROUNDING AREA
Breezy’s Snow Shack
323 S Meridian, Valley Center, Kansas 67147
This business spreads cheer to its customers through their tasty snow cones and the help of Breezy the Penguin who is very active in the Valley Center community. Their snow cones come in five sizes ranging from $1.50 to $4, with toppings and candies costing $1 or less. Try out some of their specialty flavors like Red Hot and Shrek. Breezy’s Snow Shack also offers a variety of party packages for your events ranging from $25 to $150 with special deals for nonprofits.
MOBILE (They come to you!)
Kona Ice of Central Wichita
While officially located in Mulvane, this mobile truck will come to you! Check Facebook for their weekly schedule to see which zip codes or parts of town they will be visiting. For those of you who live outside of the city of Wichita, Kona Ice of Greater Wichita will also be happy to serve you. The Kona Ice Franchise is also proud to give back to the Wichita community, with part of their revenue going to schools and youth sports.
We invited them to our neighborhood and all the kids were so happy to take a break from swimming and riding their bikes to enjoy a cool treat. There are so many delicious flavors, but I particularly enjoyed the Lavender Lemonade from their Krafted menu. Pomegranade Acai and Watermelon Mint were also a hit. They offer different sizes and special packages with flower leis and color changing cups. Prices range between $3 and $7.
Snoasis Shaved Ice

With two locations in Augusta and Rose Hill, this business also has a mobile truck that will come to your event or neighborhood gathering. Some of their special flavors are caramel green apple, root beer float, and margarita with sea salt. Their dole whips are also a must! Prices for snow cones start a $2 and dole whips go for $5.
Snoasis came to our neighborhood and spoiled us with some yummy icy treats. I enjoyed my very first pineapple dole whip and liked that it was not as sweet. Their prices were very affordable and they stayed longer than planned to keep serving all the families in our neighborhood.
With the days warming up and all these options for sweet cold treats, I bet you and your family will be getting your own shaved ice soon! As you can see, you have plenty of options to choose from!
