Botox® and Xeomin® for First-Timers

Thanks to the Plastic Surgery Center for providing excellence in skin care to Wichita women!

Do you notice frown lines in between your brows and crow’s feet around your eyes? Are they bothering you, and you’d like to fix them?

Have you tried every eye cream, and nothing works? If so, it’s time to do something about it. Perhaps you’ve heard about BOTOX® Cosmetic and XEOMIN®, but you’d like to learn a bit more about them.

It’s perfectly normal to have some apprehension or questions about these injections, and in this article, we look at BOTOX and XEOMIN for first timers. Let’s clear up your questions so you can make an informed decision.

What Causes Frown Lines?

As your skin furrows and folds, you get facial lines. A combination of factors causes these lines. It may be a reduction in collagen, aging, the sun, the environment, frowning, squinting, raising your eyebrows, or all of the above.

What are BOTOX and XEOMIN?

BOTOX and XEOMIN are injectable treatments that temporarily make moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines look better in adults.

When Should I Get BOTOX or XEOMIN?

We recommend that patients consider BOTOX or XEOMIN after they notice the early signs of aging. For some this may be in their 30s or 40s, but it is okay to start these injectables later in life. Both are also effective as a preventative treatment for patients in their late 20s or early 30s, and they are equally suited for both women and men.

If you’re wondering if you’re a good candidate for BOTOX or XEOMIN, your best course of action is a consultation to evaluate your options.

How Do BOTOX and XEOMIN Work?

It’s a quick treatment that works beneath your skin because BOTOX and XEOMIN are injected into your muscles to temporarily reduce the muscle activity that causes wrinkles and lines.

It delivers predictable, subtle results, so you look like you, only with less noticeable facial lines.

How Long Does the Injection Take?

The injection is quick – usually about 10 minutes. Yet, it depends on the areas you want to treat. We will discuss this with you during your first consultation.

Does It Hurt?

Many of our patients say the injections feel like a pinch.

We can desensitize the treatment area with a numbing cream for your comfort. We also have Pro-Nox for patients’ use. Pro-Nox puts the patient in the driver’s seat, controlling the amount of analgesia. You hold on to a disposable mouthpiece and hose as you breathe in nitrous oxide (similar to the dentist’s office) to reduce a case of nerves and pain. When the treatment is over, you can go on your way.

How Long Does the Injection Last?

BOTOX and XEOMIN last up to three to four months, and you must maintain the injections to keep your results. Typically, patients schedule a repeat treatment in this time frame.

Since it is not a permanent treatment, if you discontinue injections, your lines and wrinkles will return over time.

Will I Look Different After?

You might not notice a difference immediately after, but soon you’ll notice crow’s feet and frown lines disappear. You see results within five to seven days with a full correction in two weeks.

The best part about injectables? You still look like yourself, but with less wrinkling.

What If I Don’t Like It?

If you don’t like it, it’s good to know that BOTOX and XEOMIN wear off in three to four months, and your muscles will gradually return to your pre-injection state.

Most people are incredibly happy with their treatment, but if you have any questions or concerns, call your injector. They may recommend waiting a few weeks, so the product can take full effect. If you’re still concerned, make an appointment to see your injector.

It is worth noting that it may take a couple of treatments to find your perfect results. Also, remember that when you visit a highly qualified injector, you get the best, most natural results.

Is There Any Downtime?

Many of our patients have their BOTOX or XEOMIN treatment during their lunch hour and go right on back to work or their usual daily routine. We recommend you avoid rubbing the treatment area and wait 24 hours to exercise or engage in strenuous activity.

Final Thoughts

We’ll answer one last question: where should you have your injectable treatment? You’ll find many places offering injections – your local spa, dentist or OB-GYN may even offer it. We caution you to be careful who you let inject medicine into your face. The wrong person can cause complications and negative side effects.

Price alone should not be a factor. Would you rather pay more for a qualified injector or less for someone who isn’t as qualified? When it comes to injections, millimeters make a difference. An expert nurse injector considers facial contours as well as the proper dosage.

Finally, there is no one-size-fits-all injection. Make sure you trust your provider and feel confident that they can meet your needs.
