Working: The Musical

January 28 @ 7:30 pm

1/28-1/30 at 7:30 p.m. and 1/31 at 2 p.m.

Friends University is excited to announce the upcoming performance of Working, a classic musical exploring the hopes and dreams of the average working American. It will be a livestreamed production performed on Jan. 28-30 at 7:30 p.m. and Jan. 31 at 2 p.m.

Nominated for six Tony Awards, Working has been updated for a modern age, featuring new songs by Tony Award-winning Lin-Manuel Miranda, as well as favorites by Stephen Schwartz, Craig Carnelia and James Taylor. “This show recognizes the unsung heroes in our lives that we often take for granted. They’re given a platform to speak on their dreams and aspirations as well as their struggles and grievances,” said show director and Assistant Professor of Music Theatre and Dance, Sheldon Mba. “While in the middle of the pandemic, I think it’s only right to acknowledge and honor the workers who risk their lives in order for us to maintain a sense of normalcy during these tough times.”
The production’s orchestra will include a blend of Friends University music students as well as outside guests. Jesse Warkentin, the pianist for the production, is a New York artist with an impressive resume. Besides being a long-time Music Theatre of Wichita musician (11+ seasons), he also traveled with the national tours of Wicked and Cinderella.
While the performance is free to view, a donation is encouraged. For more information on this event or other Fine Arts events, please contact the Fine Arts Box Office at 316-295-5677 or [email protected]
