Football for First-Timers: Make it a Family Affair

Thank you to the Future for Football for sponsoring this article and for spreading the positive message of football and how it brings families together!

It’s hard to think of a sport that brings together families and community more than football. There is something so special about the team, the stands, the marching band, and the community that comes together to enjoy those Friday night lights! And if you live in a smaller town, those Friday night lights are particularly special as the entire community comes out to enjoy the game.

We had the pleasure of meeting with a family who is part of one of those “small towns” and got their son involved in football. They recently decided to dive into the game of football with a new player, dad as the assistant coach, cheerleaders (mom and little brother), and a whole community of school friends and their families cheering them on.

Here is what they had to say about entering the world of football as first-timers, and how it has made a positive impact on their family.

From a Dad’s Perspective:

Dad jumped in headfirst as an assistant coach for his son’s third grade football team. He appreciates the game of football as it’s a great way to stay active and teaches valuable life lessons like commitment, dedication, and teamwork. He enjoyed football as a kid and thought it would be fun to share the memories with his own sons.

From a Mom’s Perspective:

Mom is the social butterfly of the family and says it has been so fun getting to share the experience with other school families. They carpool to practices, get to spend Saturdays together to cheer on their kiddos, and many of their third grade friends’ little sisters joined the cheer team to cheer on their brothers.

From a Son’s Perspective:

When we asked George what he loves most about the game of football, he told us: “I love that I get to learn the sport of football with my friends, and I always know my family and friends are cheering for me no matter what.”

And after our interview, they went to their small town’s local high school football game with a group of friends. It was truly a family affair and doesn’t get much more community than that!
