When you spend most of your days covered in spit up (or is that just me?), it’s nice to have a reason to get out of the yoga pants and get a little bit fancy. I’ll use anything as an excuse: Girls night – should we dress up? Grandma’s watching the baby! Should we dress up? You get the idea. Luckily, Valentine’s Day is on the horizon, and I’m here to help you get date-night ready. Grab your makeup and curling iron, and get ready for a special evening!
Makeup
This soft, golden, rosy palette says “Valentine’s Day” to me. To start your makeup, do your foundation/bronzer/blush as usual. If you fill your eyebrows (I do!) then do that as well.
First, line your upper lid with a felt-tipped liquid liner. Start in the inner corner, gradually thickening the line as you work your way to the outer corner. Then close your eye and draw a little upward flick with the liner, making it winged.
Next, apply a medium gold (#1 in the photo) to the middle of your eyelid. Blend a light champagne (#2) into the inner corner, and a bronze (#3) into the outer corner above the wing and into the crease.
Smudge a dark brown (#4) into the liner to soften it a bit. You can even mix some black shadow with the dark brown to add a little more drama. A light vanilla (#5) goes under the brow bone to make it pop.
Finish with several coats of mascara and a swipe of rosy lipstick, and you’re ready to move on to your hair!
Hair
Let a one-inch curling iron heat up while you blow dry your hair with a side part. Section off the bottom third of your hair, and clip the rest out of the way. Curl your hair in vertical sections, and alternate the direction you turn the iron each time (this means you’ll curl one section away from your face, the next section toward your face, the next section away from your face, etc.). I always like the sections closest to my face to be curled away, but do whatever you prefer! I also like to leave the last inch or so of hair uncurled so it doesn’t look too perfect. When you’ve finished the first section, give it a coat of hairspray and work your way up your head. Spray each section with hairspray before you move on.
Once you finish curling, you’ll look something like Shirley Temple. Give everything a good spray, and then let the curls cool before you do anything else. Once they cool off, turn your head upside down and shake your hair out. Run your fingers through the curls to break them up, and then tease the crown. Place everything where you want it, spray one more time (can you tell I love hairspray?) and you’re finished!
