10 Lakes with Swimming Beaches for Kids Around Wichita

Kansas summers are H-O-T, and what better way to stay cool than to splash around, take a dip in a local pool, or head to the beach! The Wichita area has some great lakes to explore with the family, and we have rounded up those with kid-friendly swimming beaches.

Three things to consider before you head to the lake:

1. The lakes in Kansas are not clear, and this takes some getting used to if you are not from here. They are still safe and cool and so much fun!

2. Before you go, make sure to check the KDHE’s  algae advisories

3. If we’ve had a dry winter & spring, the water will be low and may not be much fun. Be sure to check before you make the drive!

  1. Thank you for this list of beaches around Wichita! I will be visiting the area with my sons in a few weeks and I am glad to know it’s not all land-locked there. Now I have some choices to figure where we should go for a beach.

  2. Great article! Since Covid, many of these beaches and campgrounds have had wonderful renovations, cleaning, grooming and extra care! People are returning to the water for the first time in years! So glad the little ones will enjoy it like we did when we were kids!

  3. We love the 2 lakes at Council Grove plus the town is charming. From Wichita, it is only 1.5 hours away.
