  3. I do not believe that Derby has a sports program anymore. And you could also add Softball and Trap Shooting to the Wichita Warrior list 😊

  6. Hello, I’m not on Facebook, but I’m looking for virtual school parent groups contacts in Wichita. My 8 yr old 3rd grader needs social interaction and we just moved here. Help please?

  7. My group, Adventures in Early Homeschool Education for preschool-6th grade (field trips, classes, and more) has always been on before but this time it wasn’t. I am assuming because I got off of Facebook. I am running the group now on MeWe and through email list!

    • Yes, since the link was dead the listing was removed. If you give us info on how parents can contact you, we can add it back!

  8. Hello! We just started our homeschool journey after many years in the public school sector. Everything is good, except I couldn’t find an affordable option for group music, like choir, band and orchestra. My daughter takes violin lessons at Senseney and I asked them if they would consider offering those options and they were more than willing to give it a try. If anyone is interested, here is their homeschool groups page… https://senseneymusic.com/news-events/senseney-music-homeschool-class/.

  9. Hi there! I am a Sports Performance coach at Wichita Parisi Speed School. We just launched our newest home school program option. The program runs Monday-Thursday at 2pm. The age range starts as young as 5! Check out Facebook page @WichitaParisi or our website at speedschoolwichita.com

  10. Hi Erin, thanks for this great article! I see the forms to register as a “non-accredited private school” and that you only need to file once. I’m wondering, are there any other rules/regulations to follow throughout our time homeschooling? Any standardized testing or need to show what material was covered if we are NOT using a virtual program?

My son is 5.5yo. We’ve been homeschooling for over a year and plan to continue, but now that he is Kindergarten age I want to ensure I’m covering my bases. Thanks in advance!

    • In Kansas, there is a lot of flexibility! You don’t have to submit test scores or prove to anyone what you’re doing. While high school is when you need to keep the most detailed records, you should keep a lesson plan book of material you cover throughout the year (grading in elementary is not necessary) in case you need to enroll your child in another school later. We are also required to spend “186 days of not less than 6 hours per day, or 1116 hours per year” instructing kids – but there are no rules about what that has to look like. It can be in evening or on weekends, it can include educational life skills activities like baking, grocery shopping, hiking, going to museums, etc. No one is going to make you show proof of what you did – it’s all basically on the honor system. Have a GREAT schoolyear!
