Keep her engaged and inspired in these challenging times. New adventures are planned this fall at Girl Scouts where girls are prepared to explore the world in a number of ways. New virtual opportunities offer girls the chance to engage with friends, inspire their creativity, and discover unique experiences only found with Girl Scouts from the comfort and safety of home. Topics range from “Think Like an Engineer” for younger girls and “Cyber Investigator” and “Code for Good” for older girls. Creative outlets are so important. The arts open us to new ways of seeing or perceiving and help create a sense of belonging. Mark Arts keeps your children’s hands busy and minds engaged with classes in painting, ceramics, culinary and more. Kids’ Day Out workshops are frequently scheduled on school in-service days. During summers and other school breaks, Mark Arts offers STEAM Academy, which links art to science, technology, engineering and math. The galleries are open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Admission is free.

ICT Learn provides private tutoring, semi-private tutoring, and small-group enrichment classes for children ages 3-13. ICT Learn specializes in STEM and hands-on learning experiences through classes such as Kinder Prep, Homeschool STEM, Pop-Up STEM Labs, Robotics, Girls’ Night In and more! KS Dept of Ed is delaying implementation of the State Dyslexia Recommendations for screening accepted in November 2019. Kansas students will now wait even longer to get what science & The National Reading Panel shows works for literacy instruction for ALL students. If you have a child who is struggling to read, contact Fundamental Learning Center for a full assessment for dyslexia and other reading difficulties. It is an assessment that is more than a screening and more than a few minutes long. The Dyslexia assessments are for children ages 5-18, last two hours and include evaluations of verbal, phonological, alphabet, reading, writing and spelling skills. They let you know why your child is struggling to learn and what the next steps can be to help. Kumon Math and Reading Center of Wichita - East

Ages: Preschool – High School
Cost: Free placement testing; $125 per month per subject; $50 enrollment fee
Kumon is a structured, supplemental math and reading program which guides students from counting to calculus in the Math program and from learning letter sounds to reading high school-level literary text in the Reading program. Through individualized instruction, carefully planned by the instructor, students progress step-by-logical step through the program to build a solid grasp of math and reading while also building critical thinking skills and the mindset to learn new materials independently. Students complete daily assignments that take about 30-minutes per subject in two sessions per week at the Center and the other five days at home. Virtual class sessions are available. Each worksheet teaches a lesson that’s one small step more advanced than the lesson before so students progress smoothly and gain confidence with each new success.
