‘Twas the Christmas by Mrs. Claus

‘Twas three days before Christmas,
And Santa came down with a cold.
Between the sneezing and wheezing; moaning and groaning,
Mrs. Claus declared, “Christmas cannot be put on hold.”

Mrs. Claus spoke to the elves via text, email and phone.
She made a week’s worth of dinners and a few freezer meals.
She bathed the eight reindeer and gave them their first holiday off in years.
Presents would be delivered via her minivan wheels.

You see, she really needed more cargo space.
And the van had more bells and whistles than even Santa’s sleigh.
She scanned all the store ads and made a grand shopping list.
She would find each toy at the best price because Mrs. Claus refuses to overpay.

With all of her purchases in giant reusable sacks,
Mrs. Claus gathered the wrapping paper purchased from the kid down the lane.
She never misses an opportunity to support the local North Pole schools.
Then, carefully wrapped each gift and garnished with a candy cane.

Filled to the max, Mrs. Claus hit the road with her list and map.
She elected to enter through the front doors.
Coming down the chimney was simply not her style.
Or rather, she would hate to get soot on the very clean floors.

Mrs. Claus knew the effort it took to make this time of the year special.
She would not make a mess and bring only delight.
Planning a joyful holiday season is quite the undertaking,
She vowed Christmas by Mrs. Claus would be extra merry and bright.

Mrs. Claus recognized Christmas did not just happen.
She herself was familiar with all it takes.
Menu planning, shopping, class parties, cheery photos.
Christmas cards, special pajamas, and cookies to bake.

Navigating the in-laws, buying your favorite thing.
Holiday outfits, hanging the lights, decorating the tree.
Shopping local, helping others in need, building a snowman
Gingerbread houses, checking off the winter bucket list fully.

The big guy in red gets much of the credit,
But that is not where it’s due.
Mrs. Claus knows how much it takes.
And it couldn’t be done, mamas, without you.

With each stop she made on that Christmas Eve,
Homes were warm with kids tucked in tight.
She quietly tiptoed as she placed gifts under gleaming trees.
Wishing the moms all a restful sleep that night.

As she tasted the cookies left out,
She made a note to ask you for your recipe,
And to you remind that you make Christmas magic
Look so effortlessly.
