10 Reasons Wichita Families Will Love Attending the NBC World Series in August

Sponsored by the NBC World Series.

The 89th NBC World Series kicks off on August 3rd at Eck Stadium on Wichita State University’s campus. The baseball tournament is historically known for its unique entertainment, and this year you can expect a new spin on some historic concepts, with a different theme each night of the tournament (8/3-8/12) with activities and entertainment for everyone in the family (plus, of course fantastic baseball).

Here are the top ten reasons to bring your kids to the NBC World Series this year.

1. Meet (potential) future professional baseball players

More than 800 Major League Baseball players have played in the NBC World Series including Albert Pujols, Alex Gordon, Tim Lincecum and many more. Your kids could have the opportunity to meet a future MLB player with 16 teams from across the country in Wichita for the tournament, and lots of opportunities for autographs.

2. Snag tickets for just $5

Swing by Wichita QuikTrip locations to buy general admission tickets for only $5! They can be upgraded to reserved seats at the WSU ticket booth for just $5 more. You can also purchase online here.

3. Kids are FREE with their little league jersey

Kids (age 14 and under) get a free general admission ticket every day of the NBC World Series when they’re sporting a little league jersey and accompanied by a paid adult.

4. Grill on the Hill

In addition to the usual game day concessions we all know and love, you can pack your own food and head to Coleman Hill (overlooking the outfield of Tyler Field). Pack a picnic, your favorite candies and snacks or bring the tailgate with you – gas grills are allowed too. (Bonus: snag a root beer float on Sunday, August 6th in celebration of National Root Beer Float Day).

5. Don’t forget your glove

Not only can you snag a seat on the hill for just $5 and BYOF (bring your own food – see numbers 2 and 4), but it’s prime-time home run catching territory.

6. Watch Amazing Tyler balance things on his face

Did you know that the NBC World Series started with a game between clowns and firefighters? At the time, carnivals weren’t allowed on Sundays, but baseball was, so the game was a sort of work around that brought in a sold-out crowd. Well, the carnival is back this year for “The Greatest Show on Turf” night (Friday, August 11). Check out Amazing Tyler’s Balancing Act, interactive activities with Exploration Place, the Basketball Grannies, and more.

7. Giveaways

Who doesn’t love free stuff? The first 2,500 fans in the gates on Opening Night (Thursday, August 3) can snag a free poster, and the first 400 kids (ages 12 and under) can get a free youth jersey on Championship Night (Saturday, August 12).

8. Celebrate Girl Power with the iconic “All the Way Mae”

Inspiration for the film “A League of Their Own” and baseball icon Maybelle Blair will be honored during Women in Baseball Night (coinciding with Aviation Night on Thursday, August 10). It’s a great opportunity to learn more about women’s baseball, and to celebrate cool chicks of all ages with a living legend.

9. Cheer on the underdog

The song may go “root, root, root for the home team,” but what about finding your own new favorite team? Teams will travel to Wichita from all over the country to compete in the NBC World Series, bringing quirky unique team names (have you met the Seattle Studs?) and uniforms. Find your favorite and cheer them on through Championship Night.

10. End summer 2023 with a bang

Nothing says summer like sun, baseball and time with friends and family. Give summer 2023 one last hurrah with the NBC World Series. And what’s an end of summer celebration without fireworks? Don’t miss the fireworks on Championship Night!
