There’s always something new to do at the Zoo. Here are some must-see attractions that are sure to appeal to the young, and young at heart.

Children’s Farms at Sedgwick County Zoo

CHILDREN’S FARMS

Operating Hours: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Cost: Free
When the Zoo opened in 1971, it only had two exhibits: the American Farm and the Asian Farm.

Now named the Children’s Farms, this area houses more than 40 different breeds of animals. In the interactive area, you can pet and feed sheep and goats. Get close to horses, cows, camels, and more!

A cup of food is only $2, and can also be used to feed the koi found in ponds across the Zoo.

Fun Fact: Because of its excellent milk production, the Nigerian dwarf goat (a breed we have at the Children’s Farm) was chosen to participate in the Biosphere 2 program, an experiment to mimic a space colony where people spent two years sealed inside a self-contained dome with no outside support.

STINGRAY COVE

Operating Hours: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Cost: $4 for members, $5 for non-members

At Stingray Cove you can get friendly with over 40 cownose rays and you might even get to touch a southern ray. Stingray Cove is also home to white spotted bamboo sharks and brown banded bamboo sharks.

For an additional $2 you’ll have these rays eating out of your hand – literally!

Fun Fact: stingrays and sharks have skeletons primarily composed of cartilage, not bone. They’re cartilaginous fish.
