Summer Reading WichitaThis summer, make a splash at the Wichita Public Library! Kids and teens will dive into Oceans of Possibilities with the Summer Reading Program beginning May 31. This year’s program will see the return of outdoor family concerts, in-person programming and storytimes at most locations!

Summer Reading Program

Registration for the Summer Reading Program begins Tuesday, May 31, the same day the reading program begins. It will wrap up Thursday, July 28.

The Summer Reading Program is designed to combat the “summer slide,” where children and teens experience a slight learning loss over the summer break from school. The Program keeps young minds active through reading and educational activities throughout the summer.

Summer Reading WichitaKids ages 0-2 will participate in Early Literacy Bingo, a twist on the traditional Baby Bookworms program. Complete activities with your child and win cool prizes!

The Kids Read Program is designed for ages 3-11, and the Teens Read Program is for ages 12-18. Kids and teens are challenged to read for 20 minutes each day. After 10 days of reading, they can come in and redeem prizes! Read for an extra 10 days at the end and they will be eligible for prize drawings!

Concerts at the Park

Summer Reading WichitaAfter much success last summer, the Library will host four days of family-friendly concerts at Naftzger (10:30 a.m.) and Riverside (3 p.m.) Parks! These concerts are free – just bring your own lawn chairs, blankets, sunscreen and snacks! If inclement weather is in the forecast, call 261-8500 or visit our website for details.
