Children’s Mercy Wichita is Built for Kids

Sponsored by Children’s Mercy Wichita.

Children aren’t just little adults. They require specialized care from doctors, nurses and staff who are trained in pediatrics. Children’s Mercy is built for kids, and it was that vision that led to the opening of Children’s Mercy Wichita. In May 2012, we opened the doors at 3243 E. Murdock Street to better serve our patients from Wichita and western Kansas.

We are committed to providing all area families with high-quality pediatric care by employing pediatric specialists who live and work in Wichita, complemented by outreach and telemedicine clinics. Children’s Mercy Wichita offers a child-friendly environment to provide families access to pediatric specialty care that otherwise might not be available without traveling out of the community. Our full-time pediatric specialty clinics include Cardiology, Endocrinology and Nephrology. In addition, on a rotating basis we have pediatric specialists that travel from Children’s Mercy Kansas City for clinics, including: Hepatology, Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery and more.

We know travel can be a burden on families, and we want to make it as convenient as possible for patients to receive the care they need. We hope by adding services in Wichita, it eliminates some of the stress these families are facing about missing work/school and traveling to a new city to see the pediatric specialist their child needs.

Benefits of Telemedicine

In addition to our numerous in-person clinics we also have more than 30 telemedicine clinic offerings on a regular basis. Telemedicine supports access to health care providers by using secure network connections and devices to examine and deliver care when the patient and provider are not physically together. This allows us to be able to deliver care more efficiently and kids can receive the care they need without having to travel.

Due to the advancements in technology, a Children’s Mercy provider can be virtually anywhere delivering the same high-quality care that is the Children’s Mercy standard. Our telemedicine clinics include: Allergy, Asthma, Immunology; Ear, Nose and Throat; Pulmonology; Developmental and Behavioral Services and more.

Kid-Friendly Approach

Since we only take care of children, our team understand kids are not just “little adults.” Our clinic is kid-centric, with Child Life specialists on staff who aid in distraction techniques to help kids through procedures all in in a welcoming environment.

Our child-centered approach and family-centered care comes to life in everything we do, like the creation of Comfort Promise – a program making needle procedures more comfortable for children. Knowing that a fear of getting a shot was one of the things that worried kids most about going to the doctor, the team developed a plan to give kids ways to cope during the procedures.

Built on Excellence

Whether it’s through our continued commitment to research, helping to train the next generation of health providers or developing breakthrough technology for monitoring patients from home, Children’s Mercy is dedicated to improving the lives of children in our communities. Our hard work and dedication have been recognized by our patients and others:

  • More than 80 percent of our patients give us a 9 or 10 (10 being best) in quality of care.
  • We are consistently ranked among the top in pediatric specialties as measured by US News and World Report.
  • The American Nurses Credentialing Center awarded us its most prestigious honor, Magnet Designation, for the fifth time in 2020.

But the most important thing to know about us is this: we have one goal – helping kids get back to building big dreams. And we couldn’t be prouder to be part of the Wichita community.
