May the 4th Be with You :: 4 Ways to Celebrate Star Wars Day

May the 4th Be With You (and Revenge of the 5th) started as a punny statement, but has evolved to a cultural phenomenon.  It is no surprise to me growing up as a huge Star Wars nerd, but ever since Disney bought the Star Wars franchise I’ve noticed the love people have for Star Wars has grown immensely.  If the movies aren’t bringing more enthusiasm to this series, this year the new land titled Galaxy’s Edge will be opening at Disney World.  How can we celebrate this day of Star Wars fandom?  Look no further! Read on to gain some ideas on how to celebrate May the 4th with your little Jedis and Sith Lords or Ladies!

Quizzes

First, take a quiz to find out what character aligns with your personality.  I highly suggest, “Which Woman of the Galaxy Are You?,”  “Which Dark Side user are You?,”  “Which Droid are You?,” or “Which Jedi are You?”  Choose whichever one has the most interest to you or your family!

Jokes

Add some jokes and puns into your arsenal so you are ready for any Star Wars fan who comes your way.

Knock Knock.

Who’s there?

Interrupting Wookie.

Interrupting Wooki—-

GRLRLRLRLRLRLRLRLRLRLR. (insert your interpretation of a Wookie sound here.)

What’s the internal temperature of a TaunTaun?

Lukewarm.

Why did Anakin Skywalker cross the road?

To get to the Dark Side.

Is BB Hungry?

No, BB-8.

Mom (or dad), where is _____(insert random lost item)?

You must be looking in Aldeeran places!

Hair and Accessories

Every Jedi, Sith Lord or Lady, and Droid needs to be bedazzled with the best accessories.  Not all of us have the fancy helmets or outfits at home, so what can we do to keep the Star Wars force strong and alive on this special day?

Hair

Whether you have a leading lady or a dashing gentlemen, there are ways to style your hair to be like your favorite Star Wars character.  For your loved ones with longer hair, there are many options.

Princess Leia’s hairstyles are timeless and is always fashionable.  Part the hair down the middle and make two buns over the ears, incorporate a beautiful braided crown with a bun in the back, or create a high ponytail with a braid to imitate the hair in the slave scene with Jabba the Hutt.

Rey is by far my favorite look. Split the hair into three sections from the top to the bottom of the head, and style the hair so there are three buns on top of each other.  It keeps all the hair in place and can survive all types of weather.

Padme’s hairstyles are the most extravagant and detailed.  Definitely only for the patient child or mama who has time to create something fabulous! Check out this tutorial for Princess Leia, Rey, and Padme styles!

Young Anakin and Young Obi-Wan Kenobi have easy hairstyles to replicate.  Anakin and Obi-Wan can be replicated by incorporating one single braid with shorter hair.  Later, Obi-Wan can be seen rocking a low ponytail.

Accessories

When thinking of Star Wars, the first accessory you think of is most likely a light saber.  Here are instructions for the most realistic looking light sabers that cost only $5 to make!

Don’t have any Storm Trooper helmets at home?  Check out this link for free printouts of masks for a Storm Trooper, R2D2, BB-8, C3PO, and Chewbacca.

Food

When putting in a google search for Star Wars food recipes, I instantly became overwhelmed with creative ideas to serve to my little one on this very special day.  If you are feeling very creative, please head to StarWars.com ‘s recipes to make things such as: a C-3PO tart, Porg Chops, or “The Battle of Yavin” in Gelatin.  If you do create any of these creations, PLEASE share the pictures with us in the comments.

My meal plan for a May the 4th Lunch is quite simpler.  I plan to buy a box of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese: Star Wars Shapes to pair with fruit light sabers (fruit placed on wooden kabob sticks).  For a drink, we will serve the very popular Bantha Milk to add more pizzazz to our themed meal!

Have tons of fun celebrating.  May the 4th be with you all!
