3 Reasons to Take A Girls Trip

If you would have asked me about girls trips 5 years ago I would have said to you, “Yeah right, I don’t have the time/money/energy to take a girls trip.” I had 2 kids ages 6 and 1 and didn’t think there would be a good time that would work for me to get away. At the time, my best friend lived in Chicago and Southwest just happened to start flying there directly and at a discount. So I did what any rational person would do and booked the flight. Fast forward 5 years and since then I’ve done 4 girls trips. One with just the two of us, two with a group of girls from high school and one with family. Each time was different and each time I came home refreshed.

Here are 3 reasons to take the trip!

1. It doesn’t have to be expensive. This was my number one concern. We don’t have a lot of extra disposable income and I hate to take money that I could be spending on my family and spend it on myself. #momguilt I realized though that the trips don’t have to be extravagant. My most recent trip we went to Houston and we stayed at a family friend’s house. That meant the only expenses were gas and food. I know staying with someone you know isn’t always an option, but you could even do a girls weekend in town. Get an Air BNB for cheap and just grab some food and drinks and not worry about your kids for the weekend.

2. Your family will be fine. Did I mention #momguilt, because yeah, I felt it. One of the trips I called home and found out my youngest had been sick basically since I’d left. I felt terrible that I was missing him and that he definitely needed his mom in his crisis. However, once I got home I realized that was not the case. His dad is absolutely capable of making sure he’s OK and that he gets all the snuggles that he needs. My husband probably would have liked me to be there though to help clean up the messes…

3. You’re worth it. This goes without saying, but you are worth it. It always is nice to get away for a few days, leave the arguing and bickering behind and enjoy the peace and quiet. When I went to Houston with my aunts and cousins I literally never left the house the whole time we were there. From Thursday night to Sunday morning I just laid around the pool, read books and enjoyed my family. There aren’t many opportunities for me to spend that much quality time with my loved ones. Especially where I don’t have to be mom and take care of seventy-billion different things.

I know it’s not always possible for everyone to have the opportunity to get away, but if you do I strongly suggest you to do it! Even if it’s just for one day. You’ll come home feeling like a million bucks and the kids will be so happy to see you. They will probably even stop fighting long enough to remind you how much you missed them!
