4 Parenting Truths We Learned from ‘The Bachelor’

Let me just come right out and say it: My favorite guilty pleasure is anything in The Bachelor franchise. Amazingly enough, I find myself looking forward to Monday nights even more as I get older. For awhile I thought it was because I’m so wise in my thirties (ha!) and enjoy watching young twenty somethings figure out life, but last season I realized that maybe I was actually seeing bits of my real mom life in every episode…

The most dramatic season yet.

This is pretty much me, also being dramatic, telling my husband about something one of the kids did that day. It seems like when my oldest was a newborn I thought that was the most dramatic “season” of parenting, but now that we have a four year old and a two year old toddling around, every new phase seems like it has its exciting yet exhausting moments.

This is the final rose.

Yeah, we get it, Chris Harrison. There is one rose left. We can all see it. You know what else I get? Why you always have to announce that. Every day with my own two littles I have to give so many warnings about what is to come because I know it will ease the potential for a meltdown. Five more minutes to play. One more book before bed. Children, this is the final drink of water before I start screaming.

When do I get to go on a one-on-one?

I see you, lonely bachelor contestant. You met this great guy and you want to have some time with him and his undivided attention. I’ve got a great guy myself and sometimes the days are so busy that I find myself needing that one-on-one time, too.  I do wish our date nights could also be in an exciting place around the world, complete with a fireworks show and private concert, but I’ll take what I can get when it comes to a night out with my hubby! (Also, you had better believe I’m going to actually be eating on our date- seriously, how do they have all of that delicious looking food on The Bachelor and not even sneak a bite?!)

I’m here for the right reasons.

Just like The Bachelor shows us time and time again, life can be pretty crazy, dramatic, and FUN. To me, motherhood is the same roller coaster but when I look into those sweet eyes that call me “Mama”, my heart always melts and I know that I’m absolutely here for the right reasons.
