You Know You’re a Mom When…

When you become a mother, you join the elite ranks of some of the strongest, most incredible people on Earth. It’s a  sisterhood unlike any other, and there are some universal truths that come with membership. It doesn’t matter who you are or where you’re from, you know you’re a mom when…

…you cry at everything. Happy things. Sad things. Stupid things. Commercials. Every. Thing. Those dang hormones never go back to the way they were before.

…you cross your legs when you sneeze. You all know why.

…you’ve done about 93,653 things you swore you’d never do when you were a mom.

…you know the searing pain of stepping barefoot on a Lego.

…you’ve hidden in the pantry to eat something you don’t want to share with your kids. Because they can’t hear you two feet away asking them to put on their shoes, but they can hear a chocolate wrapper opening from a mile away.

…you have a pair of toddler underwear in your purse. You know, in case of accidents.

…your rationale for something has been, “Because I said so.” We all hated when our parents said it to us, but now that we’re on the other side it seems like an acceptable explanation.

…you’ve caught spit up in your bare hands are were completely unfazed (while all your childless friends were silently gagging).

…you’re a frequent customer of the little Starbucks inside Target. Whether you’re bribing your kids (“You can have a snack if you promise to stay in the cart, okay?”) or grabbing something for yourself while you shop alone (cue the angelic choir), the people who put that Starbucks there are GENIUSES.

…you had serious anxiety the first time you had to do a school drop off. These are finely-tuned systems – we got a full handout with written instructions and diagrams – and you don’t want to be the one to screw it up, right?

…you plan a childless vacation, and then miss the kids as soon as you leave.

…you have at least 3 snacks on you at all times, because nobody has time for a hangry kid.

…you get nervous when the kids have been quiet for too long. Quiet = trouble (and usually a mess).

…you think, “Oh, now I understand why my mom did {something}” on a daily basis.

…you finally understand what it means to have a piece of your heart walking around outside of you.

…you love those tiny people more than you love yourself, and nothing they do can change that.

So let’s celebrate motherhood. The good, the bad, and the ugly – you know you can handle it all when you’re a mom.

In June of 2015 they added a sweet, rambunctious boy, Henry, to their family. Lauren is a 'mostly' stay-at-home mom, but also shares her beauty expertise on Instagram. Lauren loves traveling with Ben, adventures with Henry, a good Netflix binge, chocolate, carbs, and a nap when she can get it.
