Where to Take Cooking Classes in Wichita for Kids & Adults

0

As a family, I have changed our focus to more experience gifts to celebrate holidays and special events. Rather than ask for physical items, we wanted to look at different, out of the normal routine, activities we could do as a family or for date night. We’ve come to appreciate the lasting memories that come with these types of outings. Cooking in the kitchen has always been one of my favorite ways to connect.

Whether you are looking to brush up on your skills in the kitchen, enjoy an evening out with a loved one, or just for fun, consider taking a cooking class or giving one as a gift.

My favorite part, is that I can go and have a low stress/pressure time, try some new recipes that I may not normally make at home, and after you are done- not having to clean up the kitchen afterward!

Cost: $20-50 per person

“The Kitchen” is located in the Hubbard Art Center near the Derby Recreation Commission building. Offering classes of all levels, from preschool (age 3-6) through adult.

This would be perfect for a fun activity with young children that enjoy cooking. They offer seasonal themed events geared toward their age group.

We received a cooking class certificate for my oldest son as a birthday gift last year and were able to have a special one on one date. The recipe and instructions were simple easy for him to follow and he really enjoyed getting to create sweet treats, and eat them after! We did bring our own aprons from home, but they did provide some to wear during the class.

The Cook’s Nook

219 N Main St, McPherson, KS 67460

If you are looking for a longer evening out, consider driving out to McPherson KS- about a 1.5 hour drive from Wichita to visit locally owned Cook’s Nook. Offering a broad variety of classes from knife skills to gourmet pizza making, there is a selection for everyone.

While you are there, check out their selection of fresh olive oil and cooking gear for you or your fellow foodie.

Apron Strings

1 S. Main St, Hutchinson, KS 67501

Another locally owned option, take drive out to Hutchinson to participate in one of their cooking classes. Take the opportunity while you are there to look at their kitchen ware as well!

Virtual/At Home Idea:

For a more budget friendly option, find a recipe or virtual cooking lesson via Youtube or a favorite chef (my favorite is Selena + Chef). For a date night in, wait until the kids are in bed and plan to have a later meal that you can cook with your partner without the normal dinner chaos. For a group idea, host a cooking lesson in your home with friends.

After moving to Wichita from the DFW metroplex in 2011, Ricki met her Wichita native husband, fell in love, and the rest is history! Currently residing in Derby, she is a wife to local musician J.Michael , and mom to two handsome busy boys: Reed(4) and Landry (1). She enjoys traveling and has been to Australia and Spain among other places in the US and loves planning new adventures. You can usually find her enjoying outside time at parks with her family & dog, enjoying a nice coffee/brunch, or shopping for good deals.
