Some of you Moscow Mule fans like myself may be on the edge of your seat to know where the best are in Wichita, yet some of you may be asking “what exactly is a Moscow Mule?” The answer? It is a simple cocktail with just three ingredients: vodka, ginger beer and lime. Fun fact: Despite its name, the Moscow Mule cocktail hails from the USA, not Russia. Many variations of this ridiculously refreshing drink exist, which can make or break the cocktail, depending on your preference.
Moscow mules are typically served in copper mugs, which make them seem extra-cold and refreshing. Why? Copper is an excellent conductor, meaning that cold or hot temperatures spread rapidly through the material. While the copper material of your mug doesn’t actually make the drink colder, it makes it seem colder than it would if you were drinking it out of a regular glass or mug. Cool, right?!
So let’s get down to business.
Below are some places in Wichita to grab the tastiest Moscow Mules (in no particular order):
Chester’s Chophouse
Tito’s vodka, ginger beer and lime.
Simple. And my personal favorite in Wichita! It’s made perfectly to my liking, every. time. (and always in a copper mug).
Dempsey’s Burger Pub
For the most variations of a Moscow Mule, Dempsey’s has it.
They have traditional mules made with Tito’s vodka, as well as more creative variations made with Texas grapefruit vodka, Georgia Peach vodka and Pacific Blueberry vodka.
My personal favorite of these variations is the grapefruit mule. Try it with extra limes for some extra zest! YUM!!
If you are looking for a Mule made without vodka, you can also get it at Dempsey’s. They offer whiskey variations such as an Irish Mule with Jameson whiskey, BlackBerry whiskey mule and a cherry whiskey mule that all pack a punch!
The Anchor
The Anchor also offers a variety of the infamous mule cocktail, including:
Blackberry Mule— Titos vodka, fresh blackberries, mint, lime, simple syrup and ginger beer
Moscow Mule— Sobieski vodka, ginger beer and lime
Colorado Mule— Tin Cup Colorado bourbon, agave nectar, ginger beer and lime
Botanical mule— Woody Creek Colorado gin, ginger beer, fresh mint, lemon and lime
Jerry Loves Ginger Mule— Sailor Jerry spiced rum, ginger beer, fresh mint and lime
And what could be better than their offer of $2 off of all mules every Monday?! Win!!
The Hill
The Hill also has a traditional mule, made with Honor vodka, ginger beer and lime juice.
(Just make sure to have your debit card or ID handy as a deposit for the copper mug—which is a MUST for the mule)!
Public
Create your own mule by choosing your preference of tequila, vodka or bourbon mixed with the classic ginger beer and lime.
Bonefish Grill
Bonefish Grill offers a signature twist on the classic Moscow mule by using Reyna vodka, fresh lime, house-made ginger syrup, ginger beer and finished with crushed ice, fresh mint and candied ginger.
If you prefer a more “gingery” mule, you should check out this version!
Deano’s Grill & Tapworks
Deano’s offers a Texas mule made with Tito’s vodka, Gosling’s ginger beer and fresh lime juice, served in a copper mug and garnished with fresh mint.
They also offer a Kansas mule made with Kansas Distillery bourbon, Gosling’s ginger beer and fresh lime juice, also served in a copper mug and garnished with fresh mint.
Honorable mention: Bricktown Brewery’s Blueberry Moscow Mule (made with coconut rum), Newport Grill’s Traditional Moscow Mule, and the Traditional Moscow Mule. at Saltgrass.
What is your favorite mule in Wichita?
Cheers!
