Spring Break 2023 Activities at Wichita Public Library

The best spring break fun will be found at your Wichita Public Library this year! With a week of FREE creative and educational programs scheduled out, there is something fun for all ages. Here is what’s scheduled:

Activities on Monday, March 13

  • Toddler Explore & Play!, 10:30-11:30 a.m., Advanced Learning Library (711 W. 2nd St.)
    Join us for a sensory exploration designed just for babies and toddlers! Activities will build neural connections in the brain and set the stage for pre-reading skills. Ages 0-2
  • Imagination Playground, 2:30-3:30 p.m., Evergreen Community Center and Library (2601 N. Arkansas)
    Have you ever wanted to create your own playground? All you need to bring is your imagination! Come and use Imagination Playground’s Big Blue Blocks and design, build and tear down your creations! Grades K-5
  • DIY Balloon Hovercraft, 2:30-3:30 p.m., Walters Branch (4195 E. Harry St.)
    A hovercraft blows air downward to push the craft upward. Use recycled materials to make your own! Ages 6-12

Activities on Tuesday, March 14

  • Peep Dioramas, 2:30-3:30 p.m., Evergreen Community Center and Library (2601 N. Arkansas)
    Come and create festive dioramas with one of springtime’s most iconic treats! Teens in grades 6-12 will use small boxes to design humorous scenes with Peeps. Call 303-8181 to register.
  • Marshmallow Engineers: Tower Builders, 2:30-3:30 p.m., Rockwell Branch (5939 E. 9th St.)
    How tall can you build your tower using only marshmallows and pasta? Work as a family or alone to test your engineering skills! Ages 3-11
  • The Tastiest Puppet Show in Town, 2:30-3:30 p.m., Advanced Learning Library (711 W. 2nd St.)
    We’re cooking up a puppet show to appeal to everyone no matter how varied your taste. There will be fun, excitement, mystery, joy and could there even be…danger? This program will be fun for the whole family!

Activities on Wednesday, March 15

  • Candy Sushi, 2:30-3:30 p.m., Angelou Branch (3051 E. 21st St.)
    Whether you like to sample new foods or experiment with favorites from home, teens in grades 6-12 can come and create this tasty food impostor: Candy Sushi! Call 688-9580 to register.
  • Bubble Experiments, 2:30-3:30 p.m., Westlink Branch (8515 Bekemeyer)
    Bubbles float and pop, but do bubbles bounce? Explore the science behind the fun of bubbles. Ages 6-8

Activities on Thursday, March 16

  • Make a Beeswax Candle, 10:30-11:30 a.m., Alford Branch (3447 S. Meridian)
    Make your own unique candle by rolling natural beeswax sheets and adding designs. Supplies provided. Ages 6-12
  • Who Was? Books Quiz Show, 2:30-3:30 p.m., Westlink Branch (8515 Bekemeyer)
    Who are some of the people and what are some of the events that shaped our history? Participate by answering trivia and playing games based on the popular book series. Ages 9-11
  • A Pete the Cat Mystery: I Lost My Magic Sunglasses!, 2:30-3:30 p.m., Advanced Learning Library (711 W. 2nd St.)
    Our friend Pete the Cat has lost his favorite Magic Sunglasses. We need to help him get them back, and we don’t have much time. Pete must leave soon to drive the bus and he needs his glasses. Join us as we work together to follow the clues to the magic sunglasses. Seats are limited; pick up a ticket at the Children’s Desk starting thirty minutes before the program. Grades K-3

Activities on Friday, March 17

  • Minute to Win It!, 2:30-3:30 p.m., Angelou Branch (3051 E. 21st St.)
    Come and compete with area youth in a series of 60-second challenges using objects commonly found at home. Expect to laugh, have fun, and win prizes! Ages 8-11
  • Bad Art Challenge, 3-4 p.m., Advanced Learning Library (711 W. 2nd St.)
    Ever created something and thought “wow, that’s the worst!”? Then this competition is for you! All art supplies will be provided, just bring your creativity and imagination to see if you can snag the illustrious title of Wichita’s Worst Artist. Call 261-8500 to register. Grades 6-12
