OUR GROWING HERD
The biggest reason to visit the Zoo this summer is our growing African Elephant herd. Currently the herd is experiencing a baby boom, with boys Bomani and Kijani joining their mothers and herd mates in their outdoor habitat. Recently, the Zoo celebrated the birth of a third calf, a female named Asali. Asali’s name means “sweet like honey” but it is also herd matriarch Stephanie’s African name that was given to her before she arrived in Wichita in 1972.
These young elephants are extremely curious and energetic, often drawing crowds with their hilarious antics. Guests and families alike are guaranteed a fun time while watching their own little ones grow alongside these adorable elephant calves.
SUMMER FAMILY FUN
No need to travel far for fun events, it’s all happening right here at the Zoo! This summer’s calendar is packed with family-friendly events like the Father’s Day Car Show, Summer Learning Adventures, and Twilight Tuesdays, when the Zoo stays open late so families can explore the Zoo after the heat of the day.
WILD ATTRACTIONS
Want to upgrade your Zoo visit? Discover fun for the whole family at one of the Zoo’s popular attractions, Stingray Feedings, Giraffe Feedings, Boat Rides, and the Safari Express.
Stingray Cove is now free with Zoo admission and open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., giving families a chance to get up close and hands-on with cownose stingrays, bamboo sharks, and southern stingrays. It’s a fun, educational experience kids will love—and while visiting the Cove is a special treat all on its own, you can level up your experience by purchasing a Stingray Feeding!
The Giraffe Feeding Station, open from 9-11 a.m. & 12:30-3 p.m., brings you eye to eye with the world’s tallest animal. Meet Kumi and MJ, the Zoo’s reticulated giraffes, while feeding them snacks and learning more about their incredible species.
Explore the wild waters of the Zoo on an exciting Boat Ride! Enjoy the Zoo in a unique way aboard a Conservation Cruise while learning about how we can work together to conserve our natural world.
All aboard! From 9 a.m.- 4 p.m., hop on the Safari Express for a journey around the entire Zoo to get a peek at behind the scenes areas and learn more about the Zoo’s conservation efforts.
