Summer’s here: the temperatures are changing, and so are the styles. I don’t know about you, but since becoming a mom, I feel that I’ve really fallen behind on the trend scene…mostly due to no energy nor desire to put effort into that area of my life. Having to juggle all that mommyhood brings, fashion is not at the forefront of my mind.
Having said that, I recently made myself a small promise to try to put in a little more effort and look a bit more fashionable. And I must say, this summer’s trends are making it easy for me! I am loving the looks for summer 2019. Here are some of my favorites–all conducive to mom life!
Fun patterns: Florals are everywhere! Check out the line up of Target floral dresses. So easy to throw on with sandals or simple canvas sneakers. Also look for classics such as stripes, polka dots and gingham which are everywhere. I am loving J Crew’s line up of gingham pieces!
Button front: This trend is all over everything— tops, dresses, skirts, shorts and pants. Check your favorite stores or brands for this trend. Some of my favorites are from J Crew, Apricot Lane Wichita, Target, and Loft.
Wraps: They’re not just good with turkey and avocado! Wrap styles can be found in tops, dresses and skirts this season. Check out the line up of wrap styles from American Eagle and Banana Republic.
Twists, ties and knots: This added element is on so many tops, bottoms, jumpsuits and dresses right now. J Crew offers a fun variety of this trend. Or check out the variety of knotty styles that Apricot Lane Wichita and Modcloth offers.
The basic tee: You can’t go wrong with a basic cotton tee. This classic V neck from Target is my current favorite, and I am wearing on repeat. It comes in an array of colors to go with any jeans, shorts, or skirt you’ve got on.
Graphic tees: So many fun prints, so many fun quotes. These can put some pep into your effortless, day to day look. Keep an eye out for all the fun mom tees showing up in stores! Target’s line, Grayson Threads offers several mama tees, like this one, as well as others. Our local Apricot Lane Boutique Wichita offers several cute graphic tees as well. Jane also carries a wide variety.
Mommy and me: I cant get over the adorable matchy-matchy summer outfits for you and your little one. Check them out from Old Navy, Loft and Anthropologie.
Jumpsuits and rompers: Perhaps it’s the ease of a one piece, but this look is my favorite this season. Check out this adorable floral jumpsuit by Loft, or one of their many others. Click here to see Target’s great line up of jumpsuits, or check your favorite store.
Denim skirts: This alternative to the basic denim short is back on the scene. Both Target and Old Navy offer a wide variety. These are versatile enough to pair with most any top.
Frayed, undone denim and raw hems: Speaking of denim, be sure to look for jeans, shorts and skirts with this detail make your usual denim look a bit more fun.
Easy, breezy flowy pants: Linen pants, palazzo pants and cropped culottes are so great for summer. I am so happy them making a hit this season because I LOVE them. Pair them with a classic cotton tee and sneakers for a more casual look, or add a blouse and sandals to dress them up. These Loft Floral Drawstring Pants are my choice. Modcloth also offers a stunning variety.
The classic canvas sneaker: They’re still going strong. Grab these from DSW in white or grey for your go-with-everything, mom-on-the-go shoe. Target also offers this afforable version.
Espadrilles: You’ll find this style both in sandals and sneakers. DSW has quite the line up, as does Nordstrom Rack.
Scrunchies: Yes, scrunchies. They’re back, and they’re everywhere. If you’re like me, I cringed a bit at their debut. But I’ll admit, my past childhood hair accessory is growing on me, especially the ones from lululemon. You can also find them at some of your favorite places such as Loft and Old Navy as well.
Statement earrings: Liven up any basic tee with statement earrings. Leave it to Kendra Scott to make a gorgeous variety of them. Stella and Dot also features a beautiful line up.
