When we moved into our house we knew our back yard had some work that would need to be done. We live on about 1/2 an acre and because of the curves of the neighborhoods our backyard is big for city standards. So walking in with our plates full time got away from us.
Now that I’m on day 3,729 of the Covid stay at home order, I decided that this would be an awesome time to DIY our patio! The weather has cooperated so much with us that I have spent countless hours raking leaves, trimming branches, and cleaning up just general outdoor messiness. In addition to cleanup we also wanted to create a space our family could enjoy on weekends when we had time to relax.
Our house had the good bones of a patio and some of the decor was left but it was tired and needed refreshed. I’m very simple when it comes to decorating and was incredibly overwhelmed with Pinterest so I just decided what I wanted and went with it. I also had 2 orange folding chairs that were in good condition from our wedding 15 years ago that I thought would be fun to include. Without going tropical, not much goes with orange! I decided on a navy and gray color scheme and went with it.
For approximately $200 I purchased 3 more chairs, pillows, a sign for decor, lights and a rug and pulled everything together. Of course this all happened when I was staying home so all of my purchases were done online. I can’t wait to be able to leave my house and check out a few other stores to inexpensively add a few other items to finish sprucing it up. We also will be adding screens around the rest of the patio and doors to try to keep those pesky bugs out of our fun zone.

If you do a basic search online you will find different color schemes, styles, and other options to make your outdoor space exactly what you’re looking for. Set a budget and get started. Your budget can go much higher and a little lower (I’m pretty frugal) and DIY your patio too. While we’re obviously not finished, just a few items and elbow grease make it look a lot better than it did.
