Did you know that Connections Academy is a tuition-free, K-12 public school option for Kansas families? Using your public school’s curriculum approved by your local school district, online students can get the same benefits that other public school children are getting — but receive those benefits from the safety and comfort of your home setting with you monitoring their progress.
From math and English to social studies, science, and art, your children are learning the same subjects as other public school children. But online school gives you:
1. The Power to Set Your Own Pace
You will get to set the pace to help your child learn the way that is best for him or her. So, if math is extra-challenging, you can take more time to help him or her learn important concepts before moving on to new material. If reading is a joy for your student, you can move through those lessons more quickly. This type of pacing gives your child the chance to master skills and demonstrate what they have learned.
And, certified teachers lead the courses so your child is not all alone to figure it out. When needed, teachers provide one-on-one support by telephone, email, or in the virtual classroom.
2. The Ability to Be a Powerful Presence in Your Child’s Day
Kansas Connections Academy lets you be more involved than at a traditional school. You can become your child’s Learning Coach. This role lets you structure your child’s day, provide encouragement and guidance, review work, and monitor attendance, comprehension, and grades. And don’t worry! There is a support network for you, including teachers who are available to speak with you by phone or email to give you the support you need.
3. Scheduling Flexibility for Church, Sports, Clubs…You Name It!
Because your child is learning at his or her own pace, when the work is finished… it’s finished! There is no busy work or sitting around waiting for peers to wrap up and learn what your child has already completed.
While there are some pre-scheduled events like our LiveLesson ® sessions, if you have an appointment, church activity, music lesson, etcetera, you can go. You won’t miss school or fall behind because you can come back to finish up school work at a better time. You can see how this type of flexibility can apply to different families — giving each one a unique way to more fully round-out their child’s education with the types of extracurricular activities that are important for them.
4. A Safe, At-Home Learning Environment
At home or another setting that you choose, you can ensure that your child is comfortable and open for learning. He or she can get an education and fulfill all the potential you know he or she has in an environment that is secure and free from the bullying and peer pressure that is sometimes found in a traditional classroom setting. Learning at home may also offer fewer distractions than a traditional classroom setting, allowing students to focus more easily and get the most out of their time.
Many satisfied online school families tell us that educating their children at home can be extremely rewarding. Parents enjoy witnessing that “aha!” moment when students understand a new concept or solve a problem. They also tell us that learning together helps them grow closer as a family.
