‘Kansas Reads to Preschoolers’ Returns to Libraries Across Kansas, Including Your Wichita Public Library

Sponsored by Wichita Public Library.

Wichita Public Library joins libraries across the state this November for Kansas Reads to Preschoolers, a program that creates young readers through early learning activities and sharing a common book.

Kansas Reads to Preschoolers is an annual event through the State Library of Kansas that promotes reading to all Kansas children from birth through age five. Through the statewide program, parents, librarians and caregivers are encouraged to read the chosen title.

This year’s selected book is “My Heart Fills With Happiness” by Monique Gray Smith and illustrated by Julie Flett. This book serves as a reminder for little ones and adults alike to reflect on and cherish the moments in life that bring us joy.

“Reading is an important component of early childhood development,” said Jaime Nix, Director of Libraries. “Children gain empathy and a deep understanding about their world, and learn about people, places and events. It also helps caregivers and educators create trusting bonds with children.”

The following programs are scheduled for children to participate in throughout the month:
