5 Reasons for Kids & Families to Visit Wichita Art Museum This Holiday Season

Thank you to Wichita Art Museum for sponsoring this article.

Get out of the house and into the holiday spirit with Wichita Art Museum where you can enjoy festive activities for the whole family! WAM is the perfect spot to bring out of town visitors, friends, and kids.

Here are 5 reasons to visit WAM (and get out of the house) over the holiday season!

“Robert Peterson Somewhere in America” Free Admission Day | December 7th

This is an incredible opportunity to check out the new up and coming artist of the moment, Robert Peterson and his Somewhere in America exhibit. Wichita has “bragging rights” of sorts because we are the first stop of Peterson’s exhibit which showcases African American life, rejecting stereotypes to celebrate the “Black experience as [he] knows it.”

It is rare to see children depicted and represented in the art world, and Peterson captures them beautifully as he focuses on the daily life of African American families. His hope is to bring representation in his beautiful larger-than-life paintings – for men, women, and families of color to see themselves in a setting that may not have been comfortable before. Robert Peterson offers a rare opportunity to experience portraits of children that celebrate their individuality, stories, and everyday lives.

The exhibit will be live through January 5th, and December 7th is free admission day.

For the kids: WAM also has activities in the galleries for kids to engage with the art (like a texture tour) and a selfie station.
