How to Survive the Holidays on Weight Watchers

Thinking about weight and where you fall on that number line is always stressful. Adding in the holidays and lists and to-dos it becomes an additional pressure that you don’t need. Because of this I’ve had a longstanding relationship with Weight Watchers. We go way back and we’ve spent many holidays together and I’ve found ways to stay on track, eat what I want and still lose weight.

The main thing to remember when going into the holidays on Weight Watchers is that you need to stay within your points budget. The good news though is that you can plan your week accordingly to allow for maximum gobbling at your Thanksgiving meal.

  • One way is to use those extra weekly bonus points! Free points are my favorite points. If you can stay on budget for the rest of the week you can use all those points and splurge.
  • Another way is to eat only the dishes that you’ve made. If you know what the point values are then you know exactly how many points you’re using. And you know you’re serving something that’s good for your entire family.
  • Stick to free or mostly free points. Depending on which plan you are following will determine what you can or can’t eat for “free.” Of course I’m on the most-restrictive plan so just fruits and veggies are free for me (minus corn and potatoes and I still consider both vegetables but I digress). If you can find those things that you enjoy and can munch on then you can save your stomach for the foods that matter. My preference is to try as many different desserts as possible but to each their own.
  • Get active and earn more points. You can swap Fit Points for Smart Points and add more into your stockpile of extra points. My favorite way to do this around Thanksgiving, a lot of local gyms offer Thanksgiving morning fitness classes.

The most important thing to remember when you’re focusing on weight is giving yourself grace and knowing that your weight isn’t the most important thing about you. Try to stay on track and do the best you can.

If you don’t make your goal weight this week trust me, there’s always next year.
