5 Memorable Birthday Pancake Recipe Ideas for Kids

Thank you to Pioneer for sponsoring this article.

As a sucker for special memories, I really love the idea of certain family traditions sticking, giving our daughters special memories they can recall throughout their lives. For me, the smell of new books will always make me think of my mom and gas station candy will always remind me of my grandmother (she kept a stash of lemon drops in her top kitchen drawer).

Birthdays are a big deal in our house, and every year on their special day, our girls wake up to streamers on the bedroom door, balloons in their bed, and a special pancake birthday breakfast! They both have requested for us to continue these traditions when they are in college and married with kids of their own.

We have incorporated Pioneer in several of our special memory-making traditions, like when we make comfort foods for the holidays and Easter meal planning so it would only make sense for birthdays tooMaking birthday pancakes quick and easy, without compromising the taste, is Pioneer Buttermilk Baking Mix! And it feels extra special because Pioneer is celebrating their 170th anniversary this year, that’s 170 years of being the leader in gravy (and special baking mixes).

Below are some of the fun birthday (or back to school or any special occasion) pancake recipes  and ideas we have used in the past.

Birthday Pancake Recipe Ideas for Kids

*Each recipe requires one package of Pioneer Buttermilk Baking Mix, 1 cup of milk, 1 egg, 1-2 Tbsp. butter melted. Pioneer packets can be found at our neighborhood Dillon’s and Walmarts! Or you can use the Pioneer Locator here

1. Funfetti Pancakes

– Make Pioneer Buttermilk pancakes according to directions.
– Add sprinkles (I just put in enough to make it look like fun confetti) to mix before heating on the griddle.
– Add whipped cream, more sprinkles, and candles. Ta-dah!

2. Happy Birthday Pancake

This is a family favorite. We always make a Happy Birthday pancake. You will need a mold like this.

– Make Pioneer Buttermilk pancakes according to directions.
– Spray your pancake mold with canola oil. Pour batter into the mold and put on the griddle.

3. Pancake Bar

– Make Pioneer Buttermilk pancakes according to directions.
– Set out the following toppings for the birthday king or queen. We personally love: blueberries, strawberries, bananas, chocolate chips, Nutella, peanut butter, and whipped cream.

4. Pancake Silly Shapes

– Make Pioneer Buttermilk pancakes according to directions.
– Put the batter in a squirt bottle – we have a set like this one.
– Squirt the batter into fun shapes. Our girls love spelling their names and making animals and silly faces!

5. Rainbow Pancakes (aka Unicorn Pancakes)

– Gather 5-6 small bowls.
– Make Pioneer Buttermilk pancakes according to directions, and add batter evenly across each bowl.
– Add 3-6 drops of food coloring to each bowl and mix to your liking.
– Put on the griddle, and serve!
