How to Shop Local on Small Business Saturday (Wichita Mom Style)

>> Check out our ultimate guide to local holiday shopping <<

The holiday season is quickly approaching and with it brings the busiest shopping season of the year. In our family we love being able to support local businesses when checking the many names off our list of people to buy for.  By shopping local, we are making a powerful impact on this city that we love by stimulating our economy and supporting a local entrepreneurs. Believe me, Wichita has some of the best local businesses!

In honor of Small Business Saturday I have mapped out my plan of attack for shopping all things local.

As a mom of two I can no longer start my day without a caffeine fix and Reverie Coffee Roasters is a great place to start. The Rosemary Salted Caramel Latte is decadence in a cup and you should never pass up the opportunity to enjoy a baked good at Founders Bakery. The best part of this stop is that it is a two-for-one. Extended family secret Santa gift: locally roasted coffee beans.

Now that I am fully caffeinated, my next stop is to my go to stop for all things locally made.  The Workroom is more than just a store, it is a community for local artisans to feature their products. This year for small business Saturday they will have local artisan goods on display and available for purchase, a free Shop Small tote bag while supplies last and 10% off your entire purchase if you come in wearing your flag swag. If you haven’t gotten your coffee fix or are still in need of some unique gifts check out the Spice Merchant.  They have some of the best tea blends and spices that you may not be able to find anywhere else.

A few other stops on my tour of Old Town/Delano include Lucinda’s, Bungalow 26, and All Things Barbeque.  Lucinda’s is always my go to stop for quirky gifts for my girl-friends. Bungalow 26 has a little bit of everything one of the most memorable gifts I have ever received was a cast iron hand that came from Bungalow 26 and in honor of Small Business Saturday they are offering 10% off anything locally made.  Hands down my go to stop for the man in my life is All Things Barbeque.  When my husband decided, he wanted a quality smoker this summer he turned to the experts at All Things Barbeque.  Now we turn to them time and time again for all our barbecuing needs.

My next stop will surely be to grab lunch, because who can shop on an empty stomach? Wichita has so many great restaurants, but because it is Saturday and I am feeling indulgent – this is an occasion for Ziggy’s Pizza.  I love Ziggy’s not only for their delicious pizza, but also because it’s a great place to sit and grab a drink with friends (not to mention totally kid friendly).

Stomach full? Check! Now back on the road, but I don’t have far to travel to hit up a few other great small local shops.  Love of Character and Traditions Home are both within easy walking distance, but nothing is closer than the shops in Clifton Square. Everyday Beaut and Clifton Collective are great locations to pick up something perfect for even the most difficult to buy for person on your list. Nectar Republic candles are a favorite among our team and who wouldn’t love to receive an express facial?

Heading just a little further east Lincoln Heights & Aspen Plaza is the home of Watermark Books & Cafe, Aspen Boutique.. For a book lover, when you walk into Watermark you know you are among your people! Their staff truly knows their stuff and can direct you toward your next great read.

We are in the home stretch now folks, but if I return home without something for my little people I will be fired from my position as Mom of the Year.  Imagine That Toys is the things childhoods are made of.  They have the best toys and you can find something for a child of all ages, even those that are only a child at heart. A few last stops that may be more for myself than those on my shopping list are Apricot Lane Boutique and Moxie Boutique I love all their cute clothing, shoes and accessories.

After all of that shopping I am going to need a drink and Cocoa Dolce is the perfect place to grab something sweet while unwinding with a glass of wine or warming up with a hand crafted coffee drink.
