Celebrate Rosé Day with 7 Wines Under $15

Summer time is here and so is the season of Rosé! National Rosé Day takes place each year on the second Saturday in June and I have seven Rosé wine options for you to try, all under $15.00 each!

Over the years, Rosé wines have gotten a bad reputation. They are often considered to be a sweet wine and typically identified as a White Zinfandel. I thought this until a few years ago, when I was introduced to a wonderful dry Rosé from France. The truth is that Rosé wines range in taste from dry to sweet. Rosé is produced in every major country and is made of nearly every grape variety, both red and white.

Rosé wine is produced when skins from red grapes soak in their juices for a period of time. After the juice ferments with the skins, the wine becomes deep red and the skins are separated from the grapes.  So even though it is produced similar to other red wines, the time it ferments with the grape skins on is cut shorter. So for a Rosé, the fermentation process is completed without the skins. This reduced amount of skin contact is what gives the Rosé its pink color.

The flavor profile for a Rosé wine is fresh and fruity, with each type of Rosé tasting slightly different, based on the grapes used to produce it.

Some of the most common dry Rosé wines are made from these varietals:

  • Pinot Noir
  • Grenache
  • Sangiovese
  • Syrah

Some of the most common sweet Rosé wines are made from these varietals:

  • White Zinfandel
  • Pink Moscato
