Wichita Public Library adds Tonies to Library of Things Beginning March 4th!
Your Wichita Public Library continues to provide great family-friendly entertainment (for free) to library cardholders! Now, families can borrow Tonies boxes from any Wichita Public Library location!
If you’re not familiar – The Toniebox uses audio storytelling to introduce pre-readers and developing readers to the wonders of narrative long before they can read words in a book. When children combine tonies with play, they unlock the real wonder of storytelling – a mix of fascination, surprise, curiosity and a craving for exploration all stirred together. Through this, they discover powers within to create and transport themselves to worlds and wonders all their own.
The Toniebox is a small box with a speaker. It has a platform at the top where kids can swap out tiny characters. Each character is pre-loaded with its own set of songs and stories. Kids can use the ears on the top of the box to adjust the volume, and a small bump can change the story. If you have headphones, you can plug them into the Toniebox, making them a perfect source of entertainment for road trips.
The Library will have 13 Tonieboxes available for customers to borrow. They can be borrowed for 14 days and renewed if no other holds are placed on it.
What else can you borrow from the library that’s perfect for kids?
Playaway Launchpads are pre-loaded tablets with content for kids that are designed with a simple, easy-to-use interface. They are made to be passed from one set of hands to the next. Each Playaway Launchpad has a recommended age range, with most designed for children ages 3-7.
Early Learning Backpack Kits help create young readers through themed learning kits that include picture books, educational games or toys, and an activity guide.
STEAM To GO! Kits come with different themed activities and books that take learning to a whole new level. These STEAM kits are intended for grades 4+ but can be adjusted according to different age levels.
