Summer Reading Programs in WichitaReading is an important skill for all ages, and keeping up with it over the summer can be hard. Thankfully, many businesses around Wichita are happy to provide incentives and programs to keep your child reading until the school bells start ringing again in August.

Public Libraries across the area have all embraced the summer reading program theme this year of a Universe of Stories.  Many local libraries in addition to their summer reading program will host events centered on this theme.  To find out more information about each of these reading programs and other fun events that can be found at your local library visits their websites.

Barnes and Noble Summer Reading

Kids grade 1-6 can earn a free book by reading and keeping track of it in their printable journals. 

Half Price Books Summer Reading

Kids under 14 can earn bookworm bucks for every 300 minutes they read by keeping track of it in their printable logs. 

Storytimes in Wichita

For something to do with the little ones, you can always catch one of the many story times around Wichita – we have a comprehensive list for your reading (and listening!) pleasure. 

Even if you don’t sign up for anything formal, there are many ways to get your children reading all summer long. Make a reading bucket list, for example read in a park, read in a tent, read a mystery, read a story about a cat, get creative it will keep reading fun. Make a rule that there is no screen time until 20 minutes of reading have been completed. Let your kids catch YOU reading!
