When caring for children we all face dark times, but for those families caring for children with medical complications, chronic illnesses, or even life threatening conditions those times seem a little darker and the hope for some time in the sun a little harder to imagine. Children’s Mercy can be a light for many of those families. Children’s Mercy has been providing care in Wichita for years through various outreach clinics, but in 2012 Children’s Mercy Wichita was born. This dedicated clinic ensures the commitment that Children’s Mercy has made, to the Wichita and greater Kansas community, that all families will have access to high-quality pediatric care. Care that is provided by some of the top ranked pediatric specialty programs according to US News and World Report.
As a social worker at Children’s Mercy I am proud to say that I work for a health care provider who values that there is so much more to a child and family than just their disease. I am honored to support those families and to help them breakdown any barriers to receiving the medical care their child needs.
Who does Children’s Mercy Serve?
The mission of Children’s Mercy is to improve the health and well-being of children by providing comprehensive family-centered health care, committing to the highest level of clinical and psychosocial care, and exhibiting research, educational and service excellence.
Currently there are three sub-specialty clinics that have medical providers that live, work and play in the Wichita community, Endocrinology, Cardiology, and Nephrology. What this means for the Wichita community is that if you have a child in need of treatment for a cardiac condition, endocrine disorder, or kidney disease you have access to these specialist minutes away from your front door.
In addition to the permanent onsite sub-specialty clinics Children’s Mercy also offers ongoing regular outreach clinics in Wichita. Specialist from the Kansas City area offer clinics in plastic surgery, rheumatology, urology, gastroenterology, neurosurgery, and hemophilia allowing families to receive care that may not otherwise be available in the Wichita community.
Children’s Mercy embraces the ability to overcome barriers to providing pediatric specialty care by offering telemedicine clinics on a daily basis in Wichita. This allows the specialist to see patients in multiple locations in one day and for the patients to receive care closer to home. Children’s Mercy is committed to the Wichita community and will continue to add specialty clinics as needed, to help ensure all of the community’s pediatric needs are being met.
