Opening Day for the Prairie Pines Old Fashioned Christmas experience is the day after Thanksgiving, November 24th, 2023 from 9am-5pm. For 40 years, Prairie Pines has been Wichita’s destination for family fun and holiday traditions. Located at 4055 N. Tyler Road in Maize, KS, Prairie Pines is a Christmas Tree Farm where families can choose-and-cut or select pre-cut Christmas trees.
Santa – During the holidays, their Christmas Tree Farm turns into an “Old Fashioned Christmas” with hot chocolate and cookies, Santa Claus with a beautiful backdrop of flocked trees and an old fashioned sleigh, horse-drawn hay rack rides, and family “train” rides.
Hot Cocoa and Holiday Treats – The choral music department from Maize High School sells special treats in our concession building.
Horse-Drawn Wagon Rides – Hop on and enjoy a Horse-drawn and tractor-drawn hay-rack to head to the field to choose a tree. The horses come in from Kingman and are available on select weekend hours. Tractor-drawn hay-racks are always available.
Train Rides – There is a children’s train pulled by a small tractor, operated on select weekend hours. There is no charge to ride the train.
Old Barn Christmas Shop – Every year the rustic log cabin is turned into a festive, beautiful old fashioned Christmas wonderland. There are trees with thousands of ornaments for purchase, and you can have a custom wreath decorated while you shop.
Get in the Holiday Spirit – Enjoy the fun backdrops for group photos, family photos and Santa photos. And there is a professional camera set up for these special photos. It is free to get a photo taken and optional to get your photos printed or downloaded.
