Meals on Wheels :: A Guide to Wichita Food Trucks

Wichita Food Trucks | Wichita Moms Blog Food truck fare has taken Wichita by storm. If you’re not familiar with this diverse and uniquely served cuisine, this post is here to guide you. From food truck rallies to pop up parks, Wichita has fallen in love with this deliciously fun food and we hope you will too! Here’s where my “research” took me:

Kind Kravings

This vegan cuisine is made with mindfulness. Offering fare made with organic, locally sourced, Non-GMO, and cruelty free ingredients. Owners Shea and Rochelle merge their love for the environment and kind food offering “Ol’ fashioned comfort foods” you can feel really good about. Gluten free options available.

WMB Recommends: The PLT is so delicious that my toddler barely let me have any. The sage biscuits and gravy are also divine.

The Flying Stove

One of the first to the Wichita Food Truck scene, these guys have service down to a science. Very little wait time and reminiscent of some of the food trucks I’ve had the pleasure of trying in larger cities like Nashville, Austin and L.A.

WMB Recommends: Shrimp Po Boy and Truffle Fries-but seriously, narrowing it down to these two favorites was difficult.

Funky Monkey Munchies

This fun and funky food truck offers a twist on conventional menu items. From Korean Street Tacos to Wonton Nachos, the craziness of this food makes them a novelty worth standing in line for. That said, make it a point to get to this one early because the demand creates quite the line.

WMB Recommends: My step daughter would wait in line for hours for their Crab Rangoon Tacos.

The Kamayan TruckWichita Food Trucks | Wichita Moms Blog

Asian food that fuses flavors you may never have thought to merge. The chef is sure to challenge your taste buds and leave you ready to order again.

WMB Recommends: The Asian Tacos were wonderful to share, but the finale was the Watermelon Salad. Not only was it beautiful, but the flavors worked together so well that I was genuinely sad when it was gone.

Mr. Natural’s Soul Kitchen

Another truck on the scene offering food from the heart made with locally sourced, healthy ingredients. Additionally, this truck is working diligently to build community through his work with the District Marketplace. One of the first permanent trucks to park at the Marketplace, you can enjoy Mr. Natural’s mindful cuisine each day at The Workroom.

WMB Recommends: The Grilled Cheese and made from scratch Tomato Bisque get rave reviews, but we’re curious about the Jackfruit Tacos!

IMG_2484Bade Truck

Owner Mike Castaneda brings his culinary tastings from the Food Network to ICT offering traditional food truck flavors with a twist. From his Jalapeño Popper Burger topped with potato chips to Fried Brownie Bites, you’re sure to find something familiar with a fun twist when you visit Bade Truck.

WMB Recommends: The Chicken Nachos! Hands down the BEST nachos I’ve had in a long time!

Little Lion Ice Cream

If you haven’t tried this ice cream yet then add it to your list of places to visit! Ian and Jubilee Miller are raising the bar for ice cream in Wichita serving up unique flavor options like Mascarbeet (beet, citrus zest, poppy seeds and mascarpone). Additionally, their made fresh on site waffle cones are decadent cookies that will make you second guess every other cone you may consume. Vegan options available.

WMB Recommends: The strawberry is life changing and the cookie cone is heavenly. Personally, I recommend ordering a double scoop in a waffle cone for each hand.

The Gravy Wagon

This truck serves up hearty breakfast options whose portions are deliciously large and share worthy. From biscuits and gravy to crepes, it was a delight to stumble upon the sweet owners serving up breakfast at the Kansas Grown Farmer’s Market.

WMB Recommends: Smothered Spuds with Pulled Pork Gravy…and pants with an elastic waistband.

Nitro Joe’s

A fun cart that serves coffee combined with nitrogen for a bubbly caffeinated treat.

WMB Recommends: Not drinking more than 2 cups as the coffee jitters never felt more real. So refreshing. This morning bubbly will absolutely wake you up.

Brown Box Bakery

Gourmet cupcakes with with decadent creme fillings. Make sure you get here early and order at least 2.

WMB Recommends: Seriously, they’re cupcakes. Order one of each, take them home and eat them when the kids go to bed. They’ll make for sweeter dreams.

Big Chill Ice Cream

The line always seems to form later at the rallies and now we know why. Everyone who saved room for dessert is headed for this truck! The magic really happens when the soft serve ice cream marries the Italian ice.

WMB Recommends: The orange cream cycle with 2 spoons. The old fashioned flavors are perfect for sharing.

Garden of Eatin’ Food Company

This truck is another local favorite that recently opened their brick and mortar storefront on Douglas and St. Francis. Reviews about their chicken salad on croissant to the orange cranberry chutney adorn their page.

WMB Recommends: We thought the quinoa salad was fresh and light, but still full of flavor. It was so good that I enjoyed it by itself as a meal!

A neon bar on wheels. Need we really say more? Get a sitter and find. this. truck.

WMB Recommends: Calling a cab.

We know we may have missed some deserving mobile fare and there are more trucks joining the scene. Did we miss one that you thought deserved a shout out? Let us know! We are always looking for follow up post ideas and doing the “research” is so much fun!

  1. You’ve got to try BS Sandwich Press’s Fried Pickles and Grilled cheese! They are amazing!
